Gravel root, c/s, wild crafted
Gravel root, also known as Joe Pye weed, is a perennial herb native to eastern North America. It grows in moist woodlands, meadows, and along stream banks, reaching heights of up to six feet. The plant's name is derived from its traditional use in treating urinary tract disorders, including kidney stones, hence the name "Gravel root." The root is the most commonly used part of the plant in herbal medicine, although the leaves and flowers are also used in some preparations.
In traditional herbal medicine, Gravel root is valued for its diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and antispasmodic properties. It is often used to support kidney and urinary health, helping to flush out toxins and reduce inflammation. Gravel root is also believed to be beneficial for relieving symptoms of conditions like arthritis and rheumatism, thanks to its anti-inflammatory effects. Additionally, it is sometimes used to alleviate symptoms of the common cold and flu due to its diaphoretic properties, which can promote sweating and help reduce fever.
